Stays outdoors. Bright and Cheerful. Will be very popular around the neighborhood. Does not require feeding or maintenance. Do you have room in your yard to host a yard sign? Email us by clicking here with your name and address, and we’ll place a sign within the next few weeks. As always, thanks for your support.
Let’s Go for a Walk
Even though the temperatures are cold, the race for City Council is heating up. I’ve stayed warm by walking door to door and meeting voters. Would you join me for an hour or two any upcoming weekend to help spread the word about our campaign to your friends and neighbors? Contact me by clicking here.

The Best Tasting Carrots
For the past several years, I have hosted an organic farm pick up site at my home. Known as Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), it’s a great way to get the freshest, tastiest, local, organic produce. The way a CSA works is that you purchase a “share”, and receive a box of seasonal produce each week during the season. Angelic Organics is a farm in north-central Illinois that has had a CSA program since 1993, and serves over 1,200 shareholders in the greater Chicago area. Shares are available for the 2013 summer and fall seasons. Click here for more information or contact me with questions.
What to do with all those used Gift Cards
As the holidays approach, plastic gift cards are a popular gift item. According to Earthworks, “there are 3 billion new gift cards placed in circulation every year, with the potential to add 75-100 million pounds of PVC material to the waste stream.” You can recycle these cards after you use them by sending them to Earthworks c/o Halprin Industries, 25840 Miles Road, Bedford, OH 44146. Standing Room Only for Campaign Kick Off
Nearly 70 people came out to support my campaign for Highland Park City Council on December 2. I am proud to have such strong support at this early stage in the campaign.
Anne Flanigan Bassi, who has represented Highland Park on the Lake County Board for ten years, said, “We’re fortunate to live in a community where so many talented and experienced individuals volunteer their time and effort to making our community great. But even in Highland Park, what Kim brings to the table with the depth and variety of her skills and engagement in the community is unique.”
Thank you to everyone for your support.
Increasing Recycling in Highland Park
The City of Highland Park is working with SWALCO to reduce the amount of garbage going to the landfill by increasing recycling. Click here to learn more about the program, and find out what you can recycle in Lake County. Both electronics and styrofoam can be dropped off for recycling on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7 am – 1 pm at the Firearms Training Center, 1180 Half Day Road in Highland Park.
If you have ideas for recycling or reuse of items not commonly recyclable, email me and I will post the information. For creative recycling ideas, check out this link.
Officially a Candidate
I have filed my petitions with the City Clerk, making official my decision to run for Highland Park City Council. While I only needed 96 signatures to qualify for inclusion on the ballot, I turned in just over 400. I’m grateful to everyone who helped gather signatures, or signed the petitions. You have proven that, by working together, we can accomplish much.
